Trollstigen

Day 31
We left Åndalsnes camping by 12. It was not raining the moment we left but somewhere at the first hair pin turn it started and it got more intense but at first we didn't notice because this is such a cool place to be cycling and we were so excited! It was first at the two last turns we were kind of soaked and wondered if we would be up soon and we were, and there was a café so we had something to eat and then warmed ourselves by the fire while the rain was pouring down. But then we decided to leave while the rain was taking a break and the road that continued was so beautiful but then it started to rain heavily and I got really cold so we stopped at Gudbrandsjuvet to get inside for a while and get warm with coffee and a raspberry cookie. We filled our water bottles and then continued looking for a spot to camp. It stopped raining for a while and we found one. Happiness today is when you get to set the tent without rain pouring down, and to finally take of your wet shoes. Distance today 43 km. We would have continued if it was not raining this much all day. It is hard to enjoy the lovely road when you are soaking wet and cold.

The Romsdal mountain region extends far into both sides of Romsdalen, where as much as 53 %  of the area is protected. Romsdalen offers everything from steep mountains, deep fjords and lush valleys.Trollstigen - The Troll path is surrounded by tall majestic mountains, the road twists in 11 hair pin turns to the top 852 meters above the sea level. Legendary Trollstigen has been a tourist magnet since the opening in 1936. Some places, the road is carved into the mountainside, others it is banked up with stone walls. In the winter, the road is closed but usually open from may / june until the first snow fall of the winter.
